Platform tray feeder

It was a beautiful day yesterday so I spent the afternoon working on bird feeders.

I finished the bluebird feeder that I had started last week and made a platform tray feeder.

These were the last two feeder I have planed for the bird garden.

The tray feeder includes a slide out pan for water in the winter when the large bird bath is in storage. It can hold fruit pieces or peanuts in the summer.

Material needed:

1 X 12 inch board piece cut 12 inches

2 x 4 cut 3 1/2 inches long

six 2 inches wood screws

three 1 1/2 inch screws

Circular saw

Drill with 1/2 inch bit and 1/4 inch bit

Drill a 1/2 inch hole though the center of the 2 x 4 piece. This is the hole that your re-bar will use to keep the feeder in the air.

Drill pilot holes to attach the 2 x 4  to the center of the board.

Attach 2 x 4 to main board by inserting screws from the top board into the 2×4.

Drill two holes opposite each other to hold fruit in place. Insert screw from the bottom side up so that the screw sticks up towards the sky.

Place saucer in center of the board and screw three screws around the saucer. These screws should hold the saucer in place but still allow you to slide it out for cleaning.

Looking better. I still need to add the different mulches, get cushions for the sofa, and finish planting the center next spring.

The mint , lamb’s ear, lavender, and roses are small but doing well. First of November and still blooming!
